High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is aptly known as silent killer, since it produces minimum or no symptoms at all. You may suffer from high blood pressure even without a single apparent symptom. However, if left undiagnosed and untreated, it may cause serious health issues, including stroke, heart attack, impaired vision, kidney damage, congestive heart failure, vascular dementia, peripheral blood vessel disease, aortic aneurysm and so on.

How Blood Pressure Is Determined?

Blood pressure is found out by the amount of blood exerted when the heart contracts and the amount of resistance to blood flow in the arteries. The more blood is exerted during the contraction and the narrower the size of the arteries, the more pressure is formed over the arteries, thus higher the blood pressure is.

Causes of High Blood Pressure

What exactly causes high blood pressure is still unknown. It tends to rise with age in most of the case. The causes of high blood pressure are assumed to be multi-factorial, which means that there are different factors that pose threat to develop high blood pressure. Genetic predisposition may play a leading role for developing pressure, as it is assumed to be. However, the specific genes responsible for the same are not yet identified.
